What is Substance Abuse?

Substances refers to any substance that an individual wants to stop using, this may include nicotine, or caffeine, for instance in addition to alcohol or drugs.

Misusing substances, perhaps drugs, or alcohol, starts as a way of coping with hard situations, or feelings, and that every substance helps you to feel better, relaxed. Every time a similar situation appears, you know that it helps you with your feelings so, you tend to get into a habit.

After a little while though, as you start to rely more and more on alcohol and drugs to feel better, problems emerge as a result. Things ;like problems in your relationships not being able to keep up with work or study, and getting into trouble with the police, getting into real financial problems,

You could feel more depressed, angry, anxious and frustrated. All of these things get worse as you drink or use drugs, you drunk and use more drugs in order to help you feel a bit better, making problems worse.
